About Us | Andy Malis

Andrew Malis has been active in networking and telecommunications since the 1970s, including working on the ARPANET, the predecessor to today's Internet. He currently specializes in network and telecom product architecture, implementation, and future evolution; Internet, networking, and telecom standards development; and SDN, NFV, IP, MPLS, Ethernet, and many other telecom and data networking protocols. He has written and contributed to many telecom standards, including over forty IETF RFCs, has spoken and chaired at numerous industry conferences, holds multiple patents, published articles in industry journals, and is an ongoing member of the technical program committee for several telecommunications-related conferences. He holds multiple Standards Development Organization (SDO) leadership positions, including as a Working Group co-chair and a member of the Routing Directorate in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). He is also a Distinguished Fellow with the Broadband Forum, and a former Vice President and member of their Board of Directors. He is also a Senior Member of the IEEE and a former member of the Internet Architecture Board (IAB). He has also held leadership roles in other standards organizations, including as Services Area Director and Technical Council Member at the Open Networking Foundation (ONF), board memberships, and as past president/chairman.

Prior to joining Interisle, he operated a sole consultancy as Malis Consulting. He has also held senior engineering positions at Futurewei Technologies, Verizon Communications, Tellabs, Vivace Networks, Ascend Communications, Cascade Communications, Bolt Beranek and Newman (BBN), MITRE, and other industry-leading organizations.

In recognition of his contributions to the telecommunications industry, he was selected to receive an Open Networking Foundation Outstanding Leadership Award in 2016, Broadband Forum Leadership Award in 2014 and MPLS Conference Recognition Award in 2012. Earlier in his career, he was honored with a State of California Commendation in 2002. Mr. Malis has been featured in two editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, ten editions of Who's Who in America, two editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and seven editions of Who's Who in the World. He has been a member of the board of directors of Temple Emanuel of Andover, MA since 1997, and previously served as President of the Temple for two years.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from Brown University, and a Master of Science degree from Harvard University in the same areas.
